Rockin Site of the people over there!

I have always been fascinated with online operating systems. Now I am happy to say I have installed a web OS called eyeOS. eyeOS is an open source webOS that I have played with before and finally installed for no real reason except to share and for my own amusement. You can register yourself. Just click on the link in my nav menu.

When Mom bought her new Dell laptop, it had many cool features including included Dell exclusive software for the build-in webcam. The software had cool effects that could transform the person into creatures and other extras. When I got my Gateway laptop, I was a bit disappointed with the Camera Assistant Software it had. It had no real special features and the extra effects were pretty lame. After surfing the web, I stumbled upon WebcamMax. After doing some research on WebcamMax and receiving a referral from my friend, I quickly downloaded the free trial to see if it really held up to its good reviews. After a quick and easy installation, it opened up nicely without any lag. At first glance, I already knew it offered a user-friendly interface and even lists Current Effects (which is nice, because after applying a bunch I forget easily which ones are in use). She screen is nice and clear (as good as the webcam offers). Oh, and a nice bonus was it detected the built in webcam immediately.

After playing with the effects (ranging from becoming a kitty to altering the background or adding text) I started playing with the other features. Have you ever wondered how people are able to broadcast their entire screens or use it in a video? Well using WebcamMax, you can select your sources which are the webcam in use, the computer screen (which you can select an area or use the entire screen), play movies with WebcamMax (which amused me greatly when I could play around with previously recorded movies of mine), to a slideshow or even a plain black screen (useful when you don’t want to broadcast whatever you’re doing or when you want a simple announcement displayed).

Oh, have you ever wanted to be able to doodle on your cam? Maybe circle something or just plain fool around? Well with WebcamMax, you can doodle on the screen. I played with this for hours. What can I say, when I come across a great application, I put it into use, even if it’s for my own amusement. WebcamMax also features various skins and layouts which can change the experience to fit the user. And to top it all off, WebcamMax can be used with various other popular applications such as MSN, Skype, Stickam, AIM, ICQ, Camfrog, and more. You know what’s even better? I keep finding features. For instance, while writing this review I discovered PinP abilities. This would be really cool for webcasting. You can choose up to 16 PinP sources which can be any of the sources listed above. For instance, if I wanted multiple USB cameras used, I could select multiple to be shown at one time. Or if I wanted to display my “now playing” from my media player I could select a portion of my screen and have it displayed. How cool is that!?

But don’t just take my word for it, head over to WebcamMax and download it today!

Note: This review was based off of the WebcamMax 6.0.1.9 Alpha Test. So far, no issues!

Well, it's been a couple of days since I've been in Grand Forks. The train ride was alright. Rae and I chilled in the observation car (lounge). We hit 20 minutes of rain and some pretty cool lightning and even though we ended up arriving 25 minutes late, it all went well. So far we've ordered pizza, went for a walk, ran around at the mall (spending a bunch at the arcade) and all out relaxed. We still have a lot more planned.
Well I finally convinced Rae to use the site so I set up an area just for her. So head on over to her site!
Well that's all I have for now. I'll update more later.

Well I'm heading to the train station. I'll be on the Empire Builder (Amtrak...) heading to Grand Forks, ND. The nice little blinking map below shows the route in red. The rest of the line is the full route for the Empire Builder. So far, the train isn't delayed any (which is probably the second time in my rail-riding career). On the train, my girl and I will be relaxing in the observation car. I'll have my laptop so we can play games and watch movies as well as my cell phone so I can update the GPS location on Loopt as well as my Twitter. Sadly, Amtrak hasn't implimented wifi on the trains yet (which really isn't that hard to do...), even though many airlines have begun doing so because wifi uses a different frequency than cell phones which uses the same frequency as many of the instruments of aircraft. Of course, you can still reach me by e-mail and such.
We will be back on August 6th.
I'll keep ya updated throughout the trip.

Well, I would have had this post up yesterday, but my web text editor in the cpanel decided to time out (the entire cpanel login timed out) and I lost the post. So here we go again... [this time, I typed it out else where and then added it]... So basically the reason for the title of the post, "Mana Drain", is because the mid-summer is coming to an end. I had 3 extra days off of summer school because I got my work done early. All I gotta do is show up on Thursday for some stupid book club thing and to present my project. And then I'm free. Hoorah! Then Thursday night, my girl and I catch the train to North Dakota to see my dad for 2 weeks. You may remember me complaining about Amtrak and their on-time performance (4+ hours late)... And we're expecting some rain for those two days, so we'll see how it goes. I'll be posting updates on Twitter , which you may have noticed the twitter status widget in the top left corner (that I had to edit the javascript for), as well as posting my GPS location on Loopt. I have a loopt widget below that will be updated regularly.
Oh, and I have some good news. I got into St. Paul College for PSEO. I'll be in the Computer Network Engineering (AS) Program. What's nice is that I get A+ certified in the program as well. Bonus! But for now, I'll only be taking an online class so it fits into my schedule. Ah well. That's it for now. I'll update again tomorrow.

This post is a little random and has no category... except I would file it under "awesome". Click here to see what I mean.

This just in... ok... well, I lied... some of this crap is old news. But hey, what's gonna happen? The Patriot Act? Wire Tapping? That's what we need. Wire Tapping. Then you take the feed and send it to voice recognition software that types it out. Then, it's posted online. There, problem solved! No more having to wait for this lazy bum to update!
Anyways... A couple weeks ago, I got a new laptop. It's a Gateway M-7315u. So far, it's treated me well. Of course there are some quirks. For instance, it runs Windows Vista (argh!), and the keyboard is pretty tiny. But those are all survivable and I still like it. Check out these pictures (taken on my LG Dare).

Also, check out these screenshots of my desktop. It's probably the cleanest my desktop will ever be.

Now how about some non-tech related news. =D I recently finished (survived) Junior Year in High School. I'm finally caught up and will soon be ahead of the game. Because of this, I have signed up for PSEO (Post Secondary Education Options) at St. Paul College. I took the Accuplacer (uh oh) a couple days ago and it looks like I survived it. Oh, and the program I'm looking at is the Computer Network Engineering Specialist (AS) Program. So hopefully I will get in all the way. Also, that's most likely (well, 99.9%) where I will be going for the first 2 years of college. Soo... but that's a bit away.
Ooooo, more non-tech related news! We're on a streak! =D
At the end of July (after summer school [getting ahead of the game]), I will be going on my biannual trip to Grand Forks, North Dakota to visit my Dad (who I have been calling Pops... hehe...). But there's a bonus: my girlfriend will be coming with me. So as if getting to see Pops, my cats and the city and taking another ride on the always on time *cough* Amtrak (good old Empire Builder from Chicago to Seattle...) wasn't good enough... it got even better! =D More on the trip later.

Well, for the past few weeks, I have been enjoying C&C 3 (a recent PC game purchase...) and also got back into Combat Arms (one of those Nexon games... you know, like MapleStory and crap...). For those who play Combat Arms (or any other FPS like that), I think you will enjoy this picture I edited:

Oh, and for all you fans of the Twilight series (argh) or those who believe Twilight should burn in HELL *ahem*, this is for you! =D

Oh, and if you haven't noticed, Mountain Dew Game Fuel is back! On the Game Fuel website, you can earn tokens which you use to enter drawings for cool Mountain Dew gear. So, if you want to join up, click the convenient banner right down here!

Let's see. It's after midnight and I'm still awake... on a school night... Typical? Yes. Right now I'm sipping a can of Dr. Pepper (for the record, Est. 1885), and munching some Cool Ranch Doritos (Whoa! There's 20% More Free Bold Bites In Here!). I attempted to sleep but as usual, I failed miserably. So what do I do? Waste hours out of my life on forums, twitter, surfin' the web, and posting my nonsense rambling on here.

So, since I got my LG Dare, I have been visiting a forum called lg-dare.com. It is a forum build specifically for the users of the LG Dare (and similar things) where you can receive and give help and discuss topics (and other things). I've spent many hours on this site. If you have a Dare (or even if you don't) I suggest you check it out!

As we may have all noticed, (and if not, you must have an IQ under 2) we have been hit by the Influenza A(H1N1) Virus (NOT Swine Flu). People are panicking and worrying about it. Now, my take on the situation.
First of all, 36000 people die each year from the flu. There is really no difference. We just have to adjust to this new strain of flu. Second, you really should relax and use common sense. Wash your hands, use hand sanitizer (alcohol based works better, not alcohol free), avoid touching your face, eyes and mouth with dirty hands. Things we learned as kids. Next, I highly doubt that it originated in Mexico. Essentially what happened is that Influenza A 'grew up'. It 'learned' from the past and went on to try to 'survive' in our world, even if it means living off of us and killing us (familiar? Think about cattle, plants, deer, veggies, fruits...). Now, the facts are that Mexico doesn't vaccinate their cattle from things like these like those in the US do. Somehow, a cow somewhere (or maybe a person, who knows?) caught Influenza A. It then 'mutated' and was spread around. And because it is a new kind of flu, it got around pretty quick. And some how, it ended up spreading around Mexico faster than anywhere else. Then it spread to other countries. But of course, I would suggest asking the experts on this. I am not one (and neither are most of anyone in the media). Check out the World Health Organization for more.

Hmm... what next... Oh, I will be getting a laptop soon. There was an agreement with a member of my family and I that if I did well in school this year, that I would get one. Being a new laptop, it will sadly have Vista on it. I would rather it have XP on it, but I suppose I need to get up to speed some time. Right now, this calculator I'm using right now (Dell Dimension 4400) has XP. It does the job I suppose. It doesn't have a DVD drive, which annoys me, but it does have a whopping 1GB of RAM. I believe what I may do is, once I get my laptop, I will transfer EVERYTHING from this thing, over to the laptop. Then, I will install Ubuntu on here. I may do a partition of Ubuntu and XP just so I have them both. If I don't want to keep it, I will throw XP back on here and start fresh. I will transfer EVERYTHING back to the desktop 'puter and organize it better. How about that? Perhaps get another hard drive, a DVD drive and stuff. At least, until I get a new desktop too. I'm hoping for a new gaming rig. We'll see. The odds are that I will have Winblows XP on that too. Or at least until Winblows 7 becomes stable and fully released. That will take years though...

As some may have noticed, the chat link on the nav menu has been stuck out. I have temporarily taken the chat down. I will be making some changes to the site soon and I had to do this now. Sorry!

You know what sucks? Losing your keys. A story for you (took place today).
I was about to leave for school, when I couldn't find my keys. I normally leave early for school, so I had time to look for them. But I just couldn't find them. So eventually I give up and just head to school. Then in my second period class, I was pulling out my binder when my keys fell on the table. They were some how stuck to it the whole time! ARGH! I had searched my backpack too.

Well, I'm all out of Dr. Pepper for now. It's now 1AM so I better be lights out for a couple hours.

More rambling to come.

Well... I've had a pretty busy past couple of months. But, now I'm home sick for the day with nothing better to do. I mean, I know I have school work but I'm all good in that area. . So... time to ramble on about recent events.
First off, I would like to mention that I am a now proud user of Verizon Wireless. I also have a new toy, the LG Dare. And I must say, it does treat me well (other than minor glitches). Here is a picture of it (click to view a larger version).

And of course, I've been making custom wallpaper for it. I think I've made at least 20 so far.
In other news... (I have always wanted to use that phrase somewhere; wow) ...in other news, I have been recently been playing a ton of Command & Conquer: Renegade. Yea, I know, nobody remembers that game. Well, it's essentially a FPS [FIRST PERSON SHOOTER for those who don't know] that takes place between C & C and C & C: Tiberium Sun which are both RTS [REAL-TIME STRATEGY]. I've been playing it since it came out. I currently own the First Decade pack of games (pack of games from Westwood and EA put onto a couple PC-DVD's) and I am looking to get the new C & C games like Red Alert 3 and Tiberium Wars. So, if you're ever on Renegade online through Westwood, let me know. My handle is havoc1324 (and no, I am not a noob, I've got years of this game under my belt). So, enjoy a image taken from a screen shot of a NOD soldier about to be sniped by yours truly. I took the liberty of editing out the reticle for a nicer image.

So... there's not much more that comes to mind to talk about at this moment...
More later...

I know this isn't my usual kind of post, but dammit, I just had to say something. We recently made a purchase that I fell in love with. At Best Buy (yea, I know...) there was a keyboard I saw. I loved it. So, we bought it. Plus, the packaging was open on one of them, so we got an extra 10 percent off. The keyboard is a Saitek from the Cyborg range. It has a ton of hotkeys, it lights up in many ways, it has media control, and some extra ports for audio and USB. Take a gander at this fun toy.
