Well then. I've got a new section for you. CRAZY TECHNO PANDA. This is where I will post ideas of mine. No matter how random it is. You know, those random thoughts of what things should be. Let's get started.
You know what I would appreciate? A filing cabinet hooked up to a computer. Then, every folder has one of those proximity chips on it. You can assign each folder (on the computer) a content 'label' type of thing. So whenever a folder is in the cabinet, it shows up in a list on the computer. When not in the cabinet, it shows as not being in there. Perhaps, using multiple proximity chip sensors, you can triangulate the exact location of each folder (or at least pretty close to it). I suppose this can be done with either the proximity chip or magnetic chips, or both. Oh, as an added bonus, have a display on the cabinet that displays a list so you don't have to log into the computer. Ah... the complicated things that can possibly but nto really make life easier. More later.
Something I just thought of... you know how you have those old computers with those old parts? You know, the ones that really have no purpose anymore (other than to collect dust or to screw around with)? I have started taking the RAM chips from these. They have perfect little holes for key rings. Perfect key-chains! Currently, I have 4 RAM chips on one ring. Now, with further thought, it would be cool to have a bunch of USB drives or other forms of flash memory on one massive key ring. It would kinda go along with the whole vision of a 'Star Trek' digital library. Imagine carrying around books and other media on these rings. Have each one labeled for their own purpose, like one for manuals and another for digital newspapers. Perhaps we can tie this into the whole vision of my cabinet idea. Perhaps have a massive cabinet with strips of USB ports (like a massive USB hub). Then you take this cabinet, hook it up to a central computer attached to the cabinet. Then have this computer hooked to your home/business network. Your own computers can access these USB drives from the networked computer. You can also have these hooked up with their own static IP and access it from anywhere (with your special passwords). These USB drives can range in sizes anywhere from 256mb to those fancy 1tb drives. Then have these USB drives accessible to take one out and bring it with you wherever (especially if you don't have web access). Also have a list available on the computer of what drives are plugged in where, so you don't have to unplug 30 drives to find one. A file server wouldn't always make the cut because you can't always carry one in your pocket at all times. Just a thought. I love making technology complicated.
With the new popularity of those touch-screen computers, this will make the idea of a 'Star-Trek' library and world more possible (and possibly more fun). We can hook these up to our USB cabinet-hub and run a nice operating system (not winblows vista) that is skinable to look like those 'Star-Trek' panels. Then you can hook this up to computer operated appliances such as lighting, fridges, robot-maids, coffee makers and more. Then with some software, make everything accessible with voice recognition. You can place wireless mics all over your home. Then say you want a cup of Earl-Gray and sit back as it is made for you. Just a thought.
