Aimless News PDF Print E-mail

It seems that the world's aim has been thrown off by a few miles.
Many issues that have been on the news recently are not really issues at all.
They are just plain dumb.
The one I want to address is the planned renovation and reconstruction of a building
near what is called "Ground Zero" in New York. There is absolutely no reason that it cannot be built. None. Now some of you may thing that I show no compassion and may call me unpatriotic, but here we go. Who has the right to say that they can't build there? Nobody. People complain when houses are town down in order for a shopping center, and imminent domain has run amok, with people saying that they have no right to commit those acts either, but they think they have the right to say what a person does with their property? Good old double standard! It's just a location, nothing more! Who cares if it's down the road from "Ground Zero"? We stampede upon the burial grounds of Native Americans, we drill oil from the lands of natives, citizens, and the wildlife, so what makes that any better that an Islamic Center being built? And people, the first amendment DOES protect this project. Nowhere in the Constitution of the United States of America does it say that it only applies to protecting people from the government. It applies to everyone being protected by everyone. Why should this project be halted because a few people of the Islamic faith blew up a couple planes and buildings, when those of the Christian, Catholic and similar faiths have massacred and exterminated entire civilizations and waged wars in the name of their faith? Does this mean I could complain when churches are built on the lands of Native Americans? Civil War battlefields? This double standard has got to go! I say build on!
Now, why am I annoyed with the coverage of this topic in the media? Because it's a useless debate and should be left out of the media! It serves no purpose to me, and will not better the nation. We waste our time on senseless news when we could be looking at real issues in the world. This really annoys me and I lose faith in the media and news providers, even CNN, BBC, and many others (FOX was already at the bottom of my list, but it looks like it can go even further). So let's check our sights and aim right at the bullseye from now on.

National Broadband PDF Print E-mail

This is new. I read something on CNN and thought it was worthy enough to talk about it here, which I have never written an editorial on something like this in the media before.

Read the CNN article here: First nation makes broadband access a legal right

I thought this was pretty cool. I immediately posted to Facebook and Twitter about this, but felt that I could go into detail about my thoughts.

We've always been in this digital age, and dial-up just doesn't cut it anymore. In fact, some places don't even offer it. Instead, internet providers charge the next up price for broadband, what they call "high speed internet". This used to be true when 56k was around, because over 700k is a huge step up. But it just doesn't cut it anymore. Now days, in order to do anything other than grab an email (unless you're me with too much spam) or surf a couple websites, even 1.5mbps won't cut it. At least 3mbps is needed, but the ideal would be 7mbps to 20mbps

-very big grin-

So here's the scoop. I 'm not sure why this hasn't been done, or put into motion yet.

I believe that the United States should partner and cooperate (two keywords there) with local internet providers to set a low cost high speed broadband to be available to everyone. The speeds would be 3mbps (1.5mbps could be available at an even lower cost). The price for the single speed will be the same everywhere in the nation. This could be paid monthly, and since it's one price, the contract could remain open (unbinding) and could transfer anywhere in the nation.

In order to offset the cost to the companies, the United States could offer a tax-break, or a refund, to the companies. This could be something like (base + (number of users * "commission")), perhaps with a larger tax-break (two-tier?) for families or individuals that qualify for things like general assistance.

Now of course there are fears that this would upset the economy. I don't think it would. It would actually create a huge, practically guaranteed market, almost like a sustaining flow from consumer to provider. It will always be there, and the tax breaks will always be there, and there is a huge number of people that would use this service.

This also creates an opportunity for providers and communications corporations to take their focus off the lower broadband spectrum and focus their bigger resources on the high speeds, infrastructure and the development of technologies. For instance, take Google (NASDAQ: GOOG), and how they want to create entire towns with very high speed broadband internet available to all. This could easily be done once companies pump more resources into their expansion and infrastructure. Eventually, the nation will be networked together, and the coming of now popular "cloud computing" will be even more accessible Heck, we've seen this before, where technologies begin a faster development and production, which pumps the economy and creates more jobs across the board. Take that economy!

So, what do ya say?

Leaking! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Mark Lynch

alt

So we all know about BP, and their recent leak. Yep, that’s just what it is, a leak. One big effin leak. I’m not calling it a spill, because spill would indicate an accidental one-time event of spilling oil, for example, an oil tanker tips, and oil spills out. The tanker doesn’t leak, it spilled. Now the thing at the bottom of the ocean, that’s a leak. It’s leaking oil, from a source of oil (earth), and it’s spurting out from below (leaking). It’s a constant. Leaks are constants, until the oil runs out or the leak is plugged. A spill happens, and it ends. Oil may spread, but that’s it.

Now that I’ve gotten that taken care of, I wish to bring up something. We all knew oil companies were drilling massive holes in the ground (man-made leaks) that are meant to release (leak) oil from the source (Earth) in a controlled manner (leak-control). Everyone knows this (unless you’re part of a nomadic tribe in the middle of nowhere with little to no contact with the outside world). Everyone, INCLUDING the government(s), knew that there is a risk. So to lower risk, we create “blowout preventers” and other various forms of safety measures (emergency leak plugs). We also understood that, frankly, shit happens (feces take place). This means that these emergency leak plugs might leak, or not plug. So, WHY THE FUCK (fak) ARE WE DRILLING MAN-MADE LEAKS WITH EVEN THE SLIGHTEST POSSIBILITY OF SOMETHING GOING HORRIBLY WRONG!  This my air-breathing, bi-ped friends, makes no damn sense to me in the first place. So, here’s an idea: Plan for things to go horribly wrong. We’re taught this every day! For example, stop, drop and roll! The sad thing is that oil is flammable and by the time these leaks are done leaking, the world will be covered with oil, and I will have nowhere to stop myself from burning to death!  So, next time we let people create man-made leaks, let’s think about things going horribly wrong, and to stop, drop and roll while we still can.

Also, I watched a bunch of the BP CEO getting grilled by the government. Now you do realize that he has no fakkin clue what goes on in the rest of the world 24/7. He’s only been CEO for a few years. Why should HE have to answer for the other BP employees’ mistakes? It’s not his fault. It’s the fault of those lower than him. It may be his fault for not realizing that he is employing a bunch of idiots, but hey, what can the guy do? Instead of grilling the CEO, they should be grilling those in charge of the rigs and drilling inspectors, and those in charge of the design and building of the rig. So Tony Hayward, instead of letting government idiots grill you, let them grill the idiots at BP. Don’t be afraid to toss your CEO power in their face. It’s not like you designed and built the rig yourself. BP as a company is responsible for this, NOT the CEO specifically.

Anywho, that’s my short take on the situation. More later.

Twenty-What? PDF Print E-mail

Twenty-Ten!
That's right! I graduated! Class of 2010!

It's been a long stretch of school, especially high school, but it hasn't even started.
"Just cause you got the monkey off your back doesn't mean the circus has left town." -George Carlin

That sums it up right there. It was a nice run but now is the time for the sprint to the finish line. I'm talking college.

Heres the agenda for the next few months:

  • Get a job
  • Plan the living situation
  • Plan for college
  • Take the summer trip to North Dakota
  • Gear up for college

So, I know I've been slacking on the updates, but they're coming up, I swear!
I'll be dishing out regular updates, hopefully weekly (if not more), but if you want even more
coverage, you can always follow me on Twitter, @rockingoutloud . I recently hit 1000 tweets, and I will be pounding out even more as I go!

Here's some more kickers:
In the near future, I plan to get more active with the internet communities, and hopefully going Live
on the web with a show, as well as doing some vLogging. I just wish I had some faster interwebs so I could stream seamlessly in and out. I'll have to either dish out some funds (once the job has been secured) or figure out another place to do this. I really do enjoy eating free bandwidth though.

Well, that's it for today. I kinda rambled on as much as usual, so I'll plan out the next entry.

Rock on!

Twenty-Ten!
